Is This Why Labour Wants A Buy Back Fund? We Are Signed On To The International Centre For Settlement Of Investment Disputes

In my previous post I talked about the International Centre For Settlement of Investment Disputes as a tool to be able to fine sovereign states who want to Re-nationalize their assets.

I have always wondered at the lack of firm political stance from the Labour party on the subject of our assets.  I also wondered about the fact that they where happy to spend millions of our tax dollars on buying back dilapidated assets after they had been run down by their private  owners such as Tranz rail after National sold it instead of simply Nationalizing. That would have triggered an international arbitration based on the fact that New Zealand has signed on to the International Centre for Settlement Of Investment Disputes. I have not been able to find the date when we signed on but the ICSID has been in existence form  1966. If you have an idea where I might find this please contact me!
