The economic, political and social outlook for 2012 is profoundly negative. The almost universal consensus, even among mainstream orthodox economists is pessimistic regarding the world economy. Although, even here, their predictions understate the scope and depth of the crises, there are powerful reasons to believe that beginning in 2012, we are heading toward a steeper decline than what was experienced during the Great Recession of 2008 – 2009. On the stupidity of the Nutbarnz Troll

In September you may recall I became aware that someone had started an anti conspiracy website called Conspiracy Nutbars New Zealand or some such. 

The person/s behind the site immediately started to comment under the name of Hepi indicating my site being monitored pretty intensly. After a few comments I decided that Hepi was a waste of space and banned him but not before he helped me find a code error leading to a deformed website. This aid again came so quick he must have either linked to my blog or have it under constant scrutiny.

I never liked Russell and as far as I’m concerned the Greens died when Jeanette left the parliament. Jeanette was the only politician in NZ with the political integrity to look at the events of 9/11 for example.

So it’s no biggie for me but I put it to you that if the Greens sign any type of deal with National they betray everything they have stood for with John Key allowing open cast mining and deep sea drilling.

An estimated 14,000 excess deaths in the United States are linked to the radioactive fallout from the disaster at the Fukushima nuclear reactors in Japan, according to a major new article in the December 2011 edition of the International Journal of Health Services. A prominent North Korean defector and a South Korean politician are contradicting reports that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Il died of a heart attack, pointing to rumors that he was assassinated as result of an internal power struggle between the ruling Communist Workers’ Party and the country’s military.

“A rumor is circulating that earlier a high-ranking North Korean official was shot dead. This has yet to be confirmed, but such talk is evidence that discontent was brewing among some people in the North,” political scientist An Chan-il told the Korea Times.

High on NZ’s military wishlist: the Drone!

In 2009 A report came out stating that the NZ military was salivating at the thought of having some drones to guard our national waters!

Here we are at the end of 2011 and I thought I’d give you an update as to how far Drones have come:

• Drones are used against the Palestinians by Israel.
• Drones are now operational in the US and some of them are equipped to taser people from above.
• While the US declared an end to the war US drones will have access to Iraqi airspace.
• In Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen drone attacks have killed many people and it has been used to kill American citizens suspected of “terrorist” activities.
• Iran just downed (intact) a drone used to spy on Iran while flying above it’s sovereign ground which is a violation of international war.
• On December 8th a sherrif in Lakota USA used two unarmed Predators to pinpoint and arrest three people involved in a dispute over 6 cows.
• The US military industrial complex now wants to start selling these machines to all and sundry.

Iran, a Drone and Obama, what the hell just went down?

This week the first of the New Zealand bailouts came to pass. IAG Australia bought the still functioning bits of AMI Insurance while you, the tax payer, where dumped with a $ 1.8 billion in bad bits.

That is what it means if the “Government” promises to pay out claims for an insurance company.

Warnings from many experts are coming true: Libya is being pulled into a civil war. Now anti-Gaddafists are carving up power and Libya’s capital of Tripoli is already seeing clashes as the rebels are fighting for the local airport.

Libya that was united by one goal – to topple Gaddafi, is now on the verge of chaos. Late Saturday, the so-called Libya’s national guards attempted to seize control over the Tripoli airport and attacked their former allies from the city of Zintan. Their attempt failed but left some people killed and injured. The national guards pledged to try again and were calmed down only by the tribal elders.

At the same time, militants attempted to murder Libya’s Chief Commander Khalifa Haftar.

The Euro collapse, FEMA camps and China’s and Indian’s demise it’s all coming to pass as I write this

When I scour the Internet for News and items I think New Zealanders should know I often think of a man whom while we fell out over my apparent disrespect for ANZAC day I still think of as a friend. I will refer to him as A as I want to protect his privacy. 

A is a Waikato dairy farmer and a staunch John Key supporter. I suspect he still sometimes visits this blog and my facebook wall because his names shows up on my wall as someone I might want to befriend and other than that he is a FB member has no posts and no photo on his wall in an apparent need for anonymity.

When we were still in contact we often had robust discussions about what John key would do to this country and how he was connected to the banking world and thus entirely suspect. This was about four years ago. A. Voted for John Key and told me he would see us right.

A letter from a Jewish voice for Peace

I subscribe to a news letter from a group which calls themselves a Jewish voice for Peace. They are activists who want to make peace with the People of Palestine and I support their goal. This letter touched my heart and i thought I’d share it with you because it is important that we support those in Israel and around the world who do want to reach out to their Muslim brethren and sisters and try to heal the damage the illegal state of Israel and its inherent anti-Semitism has caused:

Dear Evelien,

Sometimes I dread this time of year. It’s dark. It’s cold. The commercials and ads imploring us to buy, buy, buy. The massive consumption. All of it overwhelming; none of it uplifting.

It’s also a bit of a metaphor for the time we’re living in. It sometimes seems that the immense, violent, and hateful forces we fight every day could swallow us up in a wave of darkness.

And then… I remember. There is light. Everywhere! Inside each of us. We are the light. We carry it with us, without knowing when we’ll have a chance to be the light for others. And, wonderfully, beautifully, sometimes, when it’s most unexpected, we find light in someone else.

I am Alissa Wise. Rabbi, organizer, educator, and anti-racist activist. This Chanukah season, I am honoring the light in my life: my cousin, Nava.

Nava and I didn’t meet until 2004. But our history goes way, way back. Our grandfathers were brothers—their father, Abraham Benjamin Wise, came to America through the benevolence of Herschel Manischewitz (yes, that Manischewitz!). The family that connects us settled in Palestine in 1809—part of the Nahalat Shiva, the seven Jewish families that first settled outside the walls of the Old City in Jerusalem.

To say that our family, our ancestors, are proud of their Zionist past is a huge understatement. So, it is not a surprise that as I became ever more aware of the horrific injustices in Palestine and began expressing my Judaism by evolving, acting, and shining my light on what was happening, many in my family responded with resistance and denial, even as others were on the path with me. Family gatherings, which had been so full of love and light in my youth, increasingly became a source of conflict and sadness.

So, I began to believe that to do the work that felt the most authentic to me, I would be at odds with my family. With that thinking, I may never have found Nava.

Nava and I had a lot in common. I went to the same rabbinical school that some of Nava’s parents graduated from. She and I were even both in Jerusalem in 1999, where—unknown to one another—we were both experiencing a consciousness shift and becoming Palestinian solidarity activists.

But we never met—I was too accustomed to family members being hostile. Why ask for more?

Finally, in 2004, we met in Brooklyn. We were brought together by a gathering of Jewish Palestine solidarity activists. We immediately were smitten with each other, truly illuminated by the miracle of light that led us to each other (or at least that’s how it felt!).

Really, we couldn’t be more different. Me, a rabbi. Nava, secular and sarcastic. Both of us, though, lit and guided by our heritage. By our Judaism. Our Judaism defines our life cycle events, food, language, history, and (now) our activism.

Nava didn’t set out to be my light. But, oh, she is. To be both friends and family in this work is a privilege, a source of light I now can’t imagine being without. There she is, bright and loud and shining for me and everyone else to see. And for that, for her, I am grateful.

A noble lie!

According to the Greeks a noble lie was a lie told by the ruling elite to harmonize the existing social structure or to protect their place in that structure.

The Oklahoma City bombing was a terrorist bomb attack on the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995. The official story was that two madman angry for the massacre of Waco where a militant Christian cult was attacked by the Feds and massacred  had build a huge bomb with fertilizer and other chemicals in a van and had parked the van in front of the Alfred P Murrah federal building and had brought it to explosion damaging the building extensively. It killed 168 people amongst which several young children in a day care centre. Timothey McVey and Terry Nichols perpetrated the act and they were executed for their crime.

The problem is that there are so many holes in the official story and so many contradictions and deaths and neglected testimonies of people directly involved in the event that it is more than likely that this official story like the 911 story may have to be binned and another real investigation may have to take place to establish what really happened.
